Gentle Somatic Yoga ™️

The restorative therapeutic exercises, called Somatic Movement Flows®, are designed to address the root cause of both intermittent and chronic muscular pain. Life stressors, including injuries, habitual postures (e.g. desk work), repetitive tasks, as well as mental and/or emotional stress can disrupt or in some cases switch off our brain-to-muscle feedback circuits. Neuroscience helps us to understand more about how GSY cultivates positive neuroplastic changes in the brain. When the brain forgets how to relax a muscle, it stays contracted and we feel muscular pain even when we think we're relaxing. The pain you're feeling may actually be caused by unconscious muscle tension in a different part of your body. Some pain management practitioners that you may have tried manipulate your muscles for you, and can only provide temporary relief. Somatic movements teach us how to re-educate the brain in the way it senses and orchestrates muscle movement. Habitually contracted muscles are controlled by the brain, so only you can make the change -- from the inside out.

The result is greater freedom of movement, so that you can get the most out of your classic yoga sessions, favourite sport or activity -- and your life! If you are able to lay down on a yoga mat (and get back up), you can relieve your muscular pain any where and any time. The aim of Gentle Somatic Yoga is to provide you with practical tools so that you can take charge of your own healing process and give you valuable, life-long self-care tools for enhanced performance and well-being.

“Like it or not, our bodies are a map to our whole entire life experience mentally, emotionally, physically.”
